This page was just started on 12-15-2025. Its immediate purpose is to provide information regarding Will's hospital situation. He was taken to Auburn hospital (MultiCare) on December 9th when he exhibited symptoms of pneumonia, heart failure and acute kidney failure.

• 9 Janary 2025 p.m. In talking with Betty, it became evident that my postings were being redundant, as many people were communicating by phone with Betty as well, so it was deduced that not much was being seved by reporting here. Therefore, I'll invest that time nd energy into furthering the development of family history on this site.

• 25 December 2025 p.m. Mitch and Abby Gering visited Will today in his new "digs." They regaled him with tales of all sorts, to Will's delight. I (George) slipped in for a couple of hours, during which Mitch and Abby took Betty to Tina's home for a gathering. I left before they got back but in the meantime Will and I talked a lot. Well... Will talked and I mostly listened. Will is grateful (as is Betty) for the convenience of the center being part of Wesley's campus and grateful, too, for the many friends and family.

• 24 December 2025 p.m. The transition of Will to the rehab center went very smoothly, according to Betty.

  Again, a number of visitors appeared, and that bouyed Will's spirit during the time, though once things quiet down, the darkness and confusion take over again. The attendants at the center are superb.

  Betty plans to join the group at Tina's home a little after noon. on Christmas Day. They're all thankful for skillekd medical people and for the help and prayers of family and friends.

• 23 December 2025 p.m. Betty relays that Will will be discharged from the hospital and housed in the Wesley rehab center tomorrow (Christmas Eve!). Transfer will be by ambulance about noon. He will be in hospice care. ~gs
  



• 22 December 2025 p.m. Betty reported that Will had relatives from Lynden (Marty and his wife), plus others visit today, which raised Will's spirits, so it was a better day for him..

  The hospital doctor discussed the pros and cons of dialysis. No firm decision, but it doesn't have a strong positive argument for a person Will's age and condition. The 4-5 hour sessions plus ambulance transport to the center would be very taxing and likely not all that beneficial.

  Tina has been "running interference" for Betty with regard to arrangements for stay at the Wesley rehab center — and doing a yeoman's job, which is great. ~gs
  



• 20 December 2025 p.m. Will had several visitors today, includng grandson Mitch and wife, who kept Will entertained for three hours. That really perked him up. The new room "with a view" makes a difference, as well.

  Being a weekend day, no doctors were involved directly. A hint was made that dialysis may be in the future. Betty sounded tired when I spoke with her; little wonder with the stress of the medical situation and commuting logistics. A Wesley resident met her in the hallway at Wesley and insisted on buying Betty a cob salad, which Betty really appreciated and enjoyed. ~gs
  



• 19 December 2025 p.m. Betty was surprised to find Will had been moved from Floor 3 to Floor 4. It's quieter and he has a window!

  At one point Will wanted to sit up. With no nurses right there, Betty was skeptical, but Will managed to sit up and swing his legs over the bed edge. About 20 minutes of that gave him a change of pace.

  A couple of visitors came by, which cheered him up, but things are still confusing for him. The doctor said an evaluation on Monday will determine whether he can be discharged.

  At that time he would be situated in Wesley's Rehab center, which is on the campus where Will and Betty have their apartment. Betty is exhausted, of course, but has many folks ready and able to assist.

• 18 December 2025 p.m. The routine went slightly better for Will today. He had several visitors, but that only adds pressure. The pneumonia was knocked down by the antibiotics, but his heart is still struggling due to the kidney weakness. The severe imbalance of all his system, added to being in a shared room with a rather boistrous lot, plus having no window to the outside world all gang up on him. It causes him to be so agitated that the IV tubes, etc. are in jeopardy of being dislodged.

  The consensus of the medical team today was that Will needs to remain at least through the weekend and possibly into next week. It will likely be Tuesday at the earliest that discharge will be considered.
  Betty is holding up best she can, but the stress is taking its toll. She has a cough that she's trying to control with lozenges and confessed that sleep is fleeting for her. Wesley residents are a tight-knit group and, of course mean well, but it comes to a point where an individual wants some distance where they don't have to be "reporting" every minute.

• 16 December 2025 a.m. Betty relays that there is a whirlwind of items to attend as she is just preparing to depart their Wesley apartment to visit Will; she reports that as of yesterday, staff had propped up Will for a time, but it eventually became too uncomfortable. They applied leg wraps to help control edema.

• 16 December 2025 6:00 p.m. Will had a rather rough day. Betty said he'd actually stood up for a moment, but most of the time he was quite confused. Betty is really feeling the weight of it.

• 17 December 2025 p.m. Will was able to recover from the pneumonia with IV drips of antibiotics, but has been left with coronary heart disease and compromised kidney function. Both are being treated, going into his 10th day in the hospital.

  Auburn Multicare is about three miles from where we live and friends and relatives have been so kind to get me there every morning and evening. The flooding has not affected us here on Lea Hill. < p> Will is very weak from the illnesses and all the time spent in bed. Hopes are that he will recover enough to come back to Wesley's Care Center here on campus. We have skilled nursing care around the clock and rehab for the future if needed. We have been limiting visitors, as he can't relate well right now and needs his rest.

  We are so grateful for all your kind thoughts and prayers during this harrowing time, and we will welcome better times ahead.

• 15 December 2025 When I (George) visited Will on the 11th about 5:00pm, Will was quite sick. Nevertheless, we had an unusually lengthy conversation. He asked the nurse for pain relief for headache. Betty had been with him all day (as she always is). I just happened to run into Betty at the hospital entrance as she and her transportation volunteer were leaving.
